Chords on a Lyre: How to accompany famous melodies

It's time to gain an amazing skill that will make you an all-around lyre player. Master your lyre playing on famous songs such as "The Pirates of the Caribbean" by Hans Zimmer, "Respect" by Otis Redding and "Amelie" by Yian Tiersen while learning in-depth the meaning and value of well-played chords!

This course is for intermediate lyre players and for lyres of any type with at least 7 strings.*  It is highly recommended to first complete the beginner courses 101, 102 and 103 available also by LyreAcademy.

    * Do you own a lyre with more strings? The course can be done by students with a lyre or a kithara with 7 or more strings. Simple and step-by-step videos are available to prepare your lyre for the courses (including tuning).

    Enhance your lyre playing by learning how to accompany a melody with chords. You will learn what is a major and a minor chord, what impact do they have on your lyre playing, and you will practice your chords playing for the first time!

    Let's move on one step further by learning what are chords' inversions and how to play them. At the end of this lesson, you will be able to play all the diatonic chords which form the base of the Music Harmony.

    Lesson 3 : How to play chords on a major scale

    Most of us are quite familiar with songs using major chords. It's now time to introduce them to your lyre playing, and by doing this your own melodies will instantly become more pleasant to the ear, and certainly you will be able to play in a more "feel good" way!

    Do you want to evoke sad emotions like sorrow, grief, nostalgia etc.? It's all about the minor diatonic scales, which you are going to learn and apply them to your lyre playing in this lesson!
